Strength in Menopause
Strength Training for Women in Perimenopause & Beyond
Beginner Friendly
If the thought of walking into a gym makes you nervous, you are not alone. Most of the women who join us have never strength trained before, and that is exactly why I brought in the BioCircuit system at The Well.
When you join The Well the first thing you do is schedule your included 1:1 personal training session. She'll run you through your body scan, set up your circuit, and show you how to use the system while answering your questions.
When you've had a chance to get used to your initial routine, you'll book your second included personal training session to make sure your routine continues to fit your needs.
After three months (and each quarter thereafter), book in another body scan so you can see your results. Book more sessions with our personal trainers as needed to advance your routine when you are ready.
To do a circuit, you'll log onto the Biocircuit system and it will tell you where to start so there is no waiting. As you approach your appointed station it sets itself to the right difficulty and position for you, and shows you on the screen when and how to move. Once you've completed that machine's 45 seconds, you'll move to the next station and continue through all the stations for up to 3 full rounds.
Add on a cardio session if you wish, or sit in the infra-red sauna to stretch and relax, and in under an hour you've worked out, relaxed, and are on your way again, all while getting stronger every week.

Strength in Every Season
How AI-Powered Training is Changing the Game for Women
There's a moment at most fitness conferences where
something clicks. For me, it happened at Fuel Summit in 2024, a women's fitness conference that left me with two ideas I couldn't shake: the industry's glaring gap in training guidance for women in perimenopause and post menopause, and the quiet but unstoppable rise of AI in how we coach and train.
I was right at the start of my own perimenopause journey at the time. Figuring out training, sleep, and lifestyle in what I've come to think of as my season of change. So these weren't abstract industry observations, they felt personal.
The very next day, I got a glimpse of what the future might look like.

A Chance Encounter with Something Different
I was helping Technogym NZ move equipment back to their showroom when Mark, the owner, pulled me aside with the kind of barely-contained excitement that makes you stop and pay attention. He wanted to show me two pieces of Biostrength equipment sitting on the floor.
I'd spent 20 years as a Personal Trainer, and in that time I'd built my practice almost entirely around free weights, cables, and bodyweight movement. I believed in them - and I still do. But I also knew their limitation: learning to move well under load takes time. For many older women, it can take years to develop the technique and confidence to lift heavy enough to drive real muscle and strength gains. And for women in perimenopause or beyond, that window matters. Muscle is protective. Strength is functional. We don't have years to waste.
What I saw with Biostrength was different. Machine-based training lowers the technique barrier significantly - and when you add an AI coach guiding you through every rep, that barrier drops further still. The potential to help women build muscle faster, and to get there safely, was immediately obvious to me.

Bringing It Home
Six months later, I expanded my studio gym to become the first in New Zealand to introduce Biostrength equipment configured as a Biocircuit - a guided strength circuit powered by AI coaching - with the support of Technogym NZ.
What's happened since has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career. Members in their 60s and 70s, people who might have been told their window for building muscle had closed, are getting stronger. Measurably, visibly stronger. They're moving better, standing taller, and as more than a few of them have put it, there's a new bounce in their step. Coordination has improved. Confidence has grown. And something I hadn't fully anticipated: people are simply showing up more. When training feels achievable and progress feels real, the motivation to come back takes care of itself.

The Bigger Picture
We haven't abandoned the gym floor. Stability work, functional movement, and coaching still have a central place in what we do. The magic is in the combination - Biocircuit providing a reliable, progressive foundation for strength, while floor-based work builds the mobility and body awareness that makes that strength usable in real life.
But what this experience has reinforced for me more than anything is the conversation that started at Fuel Summit. Women in perimenopause and beyond are not a niche. They are an underserved, under-researched, and frankly under-respected segment of the fitness world - and they deserve training solutions that meet them where they are.
AI-guided strength training won't replace great coaching. But it can make great results more accessible. And for women navigating hormonal change, building muscle isn't vanity - it's one of the most powerful things they can do for their long-term health, independence, and quality of life.
The industry is catching up. I'm glad to be part of that shift.

Hi, my name is Marie and I have been a member at The Well since 2022.
During this time I have been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. This diagnosis gave me the answer to many questions I had, especially why I was having difficulty remembering the programmes Jen had put together for me.
Exercise is a very important tool in slowing down Parkinsons so needless to say, I was devastated when I felt I wasn't able to complete my programme as I should, in order to gain the most benefit.
The Biocircuit has been a great tool for remembering what machine to go onto next. I no longer have to try and remember what order to complete the machines in and what weight I should be working on. The prompt screen giving the number of the next machine to use and picture showing me how to use it has made what used to be confusing, so much easier for me!
I would definitely recommend anyone with memory concerns to consider using the Biocircuit.

Monica, 50s, Everyday Fit
Jen was the first gym-type person who made me stand and assessed me without weights and things. She just looked at my form. And that was the first time I'd heard that word - form.
Mandy, 40s, Everyday Fit
Mandy wanted a quieter gym to focus on her programme. Hear how she’s been surprised by her own strength.
Eline, Trail Runner
A trail runner in her 40s, Eline joined the gym to build strength and avoid injury. Listen to Eline's thoughts about the gym.

You’ll meet with one of our qualified personal trainers for around 15 minutes. They’ll answer your questions, discuss your training needs, and show you the ins and outs of our Boutique Gym, Biocircuit AI Training Equipment, Body Therapy Wellness Spaces, and introduce the Technogym Checkup technology.
