One of the many benefits of strength training during menopause—or as I prefer to call it, 'the season of change'—is an overall better quality of life.

It’s not just about physical strength. It’s about:

- Being connected to one's body

- Strengthening your bones

- Boosting your mood

If you are in this season of your life, or you know someone who is, let's support each other. Let's do it with grace, with honesty, and the knowing it's sometimes going to be a little bit messy. This journey isn't about perfection; it's about showing up for ourselves and each other, one rep at a time.

Here's to strong women, let's lift each other up!

Liz, one of our wonderful female members, is in her post-menopausal years (I’m tempted to say ‘wise’ years). She is 75 years old, has two grandchildren and has made a career as a writer. That’s often sedentary work and although she enjoys walking while listening to podcasts, she says she’s not and has never been sporty. When she was in her mid-60s she realised she would have to be more proactive about staying fit and keeping well.

When Liz first came to The Well Studios, however, she had recently been diagnosed with Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). PMR is an inflammatory condition which causes pain and stiffness in the shoulders, neck, and hips, fatigue and a feeling of being unwell. It has been shown to improve with movement as well as treatment with corticosteroids. ‘The medication helped but I was not in a good way,’ she says.

Liz comes to the gym regularly and attends a mat pilates class once a week. The changes that she has noticed since starting training with us are increased overall fitness, better balance, and better co-ordination. In her words ‘It’s made a real difference for me.’ She enjoys the atmosphere and vibe at The Well Studios and really loves her ‘treat’ of going into the sauna after her gym session.

The data from our new Technogym Checkup shows a positive change too! In 6 months Liz has gone from 28.8% muscle mass to 35.4% and has decreased body fat. I’ve seen Liz grow stronger and become more co-ordinated. We love seeing her bounce into the gym.

If you are ready to improve your fitness so you too can enhance your life in your menopausal years and beyond get in touch with us and one of our experienced trainers would love to get you started.
